“Mike will be missed on 2nd Street. His heart has been at

La Salle since re-turning from Ethiopia.

He came to La Salle as a teacher and then moved on to serve

as Principal and eventually, President.

We are grateful for his service.”

Br. Frank Byrne  F.S.C. Provincial

We are saddened to announce that Br. Michael Farrell F.S.C. has decided to step down as President of La Salle Academy for health reasons. Br. Michael will continue to be an active member of the La Salle Academy family. Our Provincial, Br. Frank Byrne, F.S.C. said, “Mike will be missed on 2nd Street. His heart has been at La Salle since re-turning from Ethiopia. He came to La Salle as a teacher and then moved on to serve as Principal and eventually, President. We are grateful for his service.”

His religious community has always been very important. Br. Mike reflects on his community and religious life, “ For me as a brother of the Christian Schools, it is hard to make a separation of my life as a teacher and my life as a member of a Religious Community. Even before I became associated with the Lasallian volunteer movement, I lived with Volunteers in Africa. Bruce and Mary Ann Burbank came from a Canadian volunteer Organization called Volunteers in Christian Service. Since my return to the United States I have lived with Lasallian volunteers at La Salle Academy, Resurrection School, and at my present community in Bedford Park.”

Brother Michael continued, “the brothers and Lasallian volunteers in my community are a very important part of my life. The Volunteers are equal members of our community, fully sharing in the life of the Lasallian Community. At this stage in my life I very much prefer to live in a shared community of Volunteers and Brothers. We have nine members in our Bedford Park community where I live. There are four Brothers and five Volunteers. Of the five Volunteers in Bedford Park, four are young women. Mario and Sandra work

at La Salle; Janet, Erica and Molly work at Highbridge Community Life Center in the Bronx.”

We will all miss a man who has meant so much to everyone here at La Salle Academy through the years. If anyone would like to send a note to Br. Mike, please mail it to the school to the attention of Andrew Leary. He will make certain that Br. Mike receives your message.
