Lou Kurtz, husband of Theresa McClain Kurtz ‘53

Louis A. Kurtz, 80, of Elmwood Park, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 19th, 2018.

Born in Paterson, NJ, he was a lifelong resident of Elmwood Park.

He was a parishioner of St. Leo's R.C. Church in Elmwood Park.

He was a member of the Elmwood Park Hall of Fame Committee,

the Elmwood Park Board of Recreation
and the Bergen County Umpires Association.

 He also coached St. Leo’s Hockey Club for many years

 and was employed by the Elmwood Park Post Office for 42 years.

Louis was also a member of the NJ National Guard.
Beloved husband of Teresa (McClain) Kurtz,

 loving father of Michael and his wife Stacey, Kevin and his wife Eileen, Robert,

and Jeanne Price and her husband Eugene. Dear brother of Ruthann Rodriguez

and her husband Carl of Highlands, NJ,

Funeral services for Thomas P. Luckie Sr. ‘47 age 82 of 2019 Ford Street in Ogdensburg,

will be held at 10:00am on Thursday (April 26, 2018) at St. Mary’s Cathedral

with Rev. Jay Seymour and Rev. James Shurtleff co-officiating.

He will be laid to rest at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 25th from 1-4 & 6-9pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Mr. Luckie passed away on Sunday (April 22, 2018) surrounded by his loving family.

Surviving is his wife Pamela of Ogdensburg; four sons Thomas (Donna) Luckie Jr. of Ogdensburg,

Jamie (Candy) Luckie of Charlotte NC, Eugene (Kristen) Luckie of Fort Mill, SC,

Michael Luckie & his fiancee’ Jennifer Barron of Union City, NJ;

Daughters Colleen Luckie of Ramstein Village, Germany, Elizabeth “Bippy” Luckie

& her partner Emily Bietsch of West Haven, CT, and Monica (Steve) LaRose of Ogdensburg;

two step sons Patrick (Jill) Farrand of Lisbon and Matthew Farrand of Ogdensburg;

a brother John Luckie of Piermont, NY; a sister Teresa Flanagan of New Jersey;

17 grandchildren, Thomas III, Owen & Riley Luckie, Sean, Kyle & Morgan Luckie,

Catherine, Eugene, Mary & Colleen Luckie, Averie, Maximus & Coen Farrand,

Cavan, Breton, Kinnon & Brogan LaRose; a great-grandson Donovan Summers

along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.

A granddaughter Mary Catherine LaRose; two brothers Joseph & Eugene Luckie;

a sister-in-law Jean Luckie; and a brother-in law Martin Flanagan predeceased him

as well as cousins Catherine and Eleanor Lewis and Pam’s parents Dalton (Vi) Miller.

Tom was born on March 22, 1936, a son of the late Joseph & Mary (McArdle) Luckie.

He attended school at Rice High School in the Bronx and Springfield, NJ

where he excelled in basketball earning all-state honors for New Jersey.

He then continued his education and basketball career at Panzer Athletic College

(which became Montclair State) with a major in Physical Education.

He later married Catherine Ruth McGillivray she predeceased him on Nov 5, 1986.

He then married Pamela Miller on August 12, 1988 at the Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg.

After college Tom worked at Eastern Air Lines and later was hired in the early 60’s

by longtime NBA basketball official Norm Drucker to serve as program

director of the Navy Yard Boys Club in Brooklyn, NY.

Tom built many great relationships with the members there before moving

to Ogdensburg in 1965 to become Program/Assistant Director of the Ogdensburg Boys Club

and Director of the Belmont Courts Boys Club.

In 1968 he was named Executive Director of the club and was an instrumental

 part of a fund drive in 1973-1974 which resulted in the current club being built on Patterson St.

 and becoming the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club where he served in that position until retiring in 2005.

In his time at the club he, along with Ruth and Pam influenced and impacted countless youth.

In 1997 Tom was recognized by Boys and Girls Club of America with the

 Bronze Medallion Award for his outstanding service.

He also coached the Boys and Girls Club basketball team from 1984-1997

in the Franklin County CYO League as well as a Boys Club team when minor hockey began.

His community service included United Way Volunteer, St. Lawrence County Legislator,

Ogdensburg City Council, Ogdensburg Lions Club Member, Moose Lodge Member,

Seaway Festival Volunteer, Ogdensburg School Board, St. Lawrence County Youth Advisory Board,

Ogdensburg Housing Authority Board, helped to establish Pop Warner Football and Minor Hockey,

Biddy Basketball Coach, Bishop Conroy Physical Education Teacher

and for a number of years was the Head Basketball Coach at Wadhams Hall Seminary College.

Tom was an outstanding basketball player in the Ogdensburg Basketball Association for many years,

he enjoyed watching the Yankees, Rangers, Giants, Notre Dame Football,

his sons officiating basketball, his grandchildren’s athletic events and all types of horse racing,

especially at Saratoga, Belmont, Yonkers and Tartan Downs in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Tom loved golf and was a long-time member of the Prescott Golf Club

and had recorded two holes in one  including one on #10 at the St. Lawrence State Park.

He enjoyed the company of many great friends on the course including

Tom Hannan Sr., Rick Badlam, the late Dave LaRose and many other absent friends.

He was life long friends with Chuck Kelly and Ron Romano.

 He was proud of his catholic faith and Irish heritage as both parents immigrated to

New York City from the Emerald Isle and visited with all three of his daughters in 2006.

   Christine Donegan Le Blanc, Class of 1950,  81, of Waterford Ct.

passed away on Thursday June 15, 2017

surrounded by her loving family

at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

            She was born on December 25, 1935 in Manhattan,

New York a daughter of the late Dominick and Kathleen O’Donnell Donegan.

            Mrs. LeBlanc had been married on August 29, 1959

in New York to the late Charles L. LeBlanc. He passed away on December 23, 1986.

            Mrs. LeBlanc’s interests included reading, decorating and sewing.

            Her survivors include two daughters Ellen Shepard and her husband Mark of

Griswold, Jeanne LeBlanc of Waterford, two sons Timothy LeBlanc of Waterford,

Michael LeBlanc of Georgia, one sister Patricia Murray and her husband Robert of Delaware,

her brother James Donegan and his wife Arlene on New York and New Jersey

and three grandchildren Mark Ryan, Matthew and Sean Shepard.

            Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday June 22

at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St in New London

( www.byles.com ) with a visiting hour from 9 to 10 am prior to the service.

            Her burial will follow at the St. Mary Cemetery in New London.

            In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be directed

to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Hi Ed, I got the shock of my life at lunch today when a visiting priest from Long Island

 told me that my classmate from 1953, Hugh Cannon, died last October 23, 2017.

 I am sending you an obituary that I just downloaded for you to create a link.

We would get together for lunch or myself for a stayover at his rectory from time to time.

And a woman from across the street on 109th Street

lives in the parish where he died and never notified me.

It is with great sadness that I must tell you that my brother, Malachy (Matty) Guilfoyle

has passed away in Canton Ga.

He leaves behind his wife Dolores and four great kids. He was a great husband,father and brother.

Matty enjoyed a long career with Delta Airlines and was especially fond of his everyday life in

the Blue Ridge Mtns of No. Ga. He touched all our lives and he will be sorely missed.

Mr. Brian T. Caulfield, 77, ‘53 died suddenly at his home in Cedar Grove on

October 8, 2017
Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona was on

Thursday, October 12 followed by a

 Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove.
Born in New York City, NY, Brian lived in Cedar Grove most of his life.
He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and served in the US Army

 from 1959 to 1961.
Brian was a clerk with Con Edison in NYC, NY for 37 years.
He was the beloved son of the late James and Mary (nee Fay) Caulfield;

much loved brother of Sheila P. Caulfield, Maureen J. Caulfield (Stuart Sabatini)

and Eileen Caulfield Schwab.

He was also the cherished uncle of Matthew Caulfield Schwab (Johanna), Catherine S. Welykoridko

 (Paul), and Claire S. Vogel (Stephen) and great-uncle of Ainsley Caulfield,

Terrance Baird and Madeline Catherine Welykoridko and Owen Gray Vogel.
Brian, a lover of all things Irish, just returned from a visit to Ireland.

I have been informed that James McNaney of the class of 1941 passed away on June 6th 2017.

Jim lived in New Rochelle, NY

James P. McNaney, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on June 6, 2017. He was 89.
James was born on March 17, 1928 in NYC to the late Patrick and Margaret (Jones) McNaney.
He was the owner of JPM Co, a manufacturing rep company.

He was also an Adjunct Professor in Marketing at Pace University.

He was the 46th longest member of the New York Athletic Club,

He graduated Iona College in 1949 where started their track and field team.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Mary Louise Kehoe who founded

 Hope Community Services in 1984. She died January 10, 1998.
He is survived by his daughters Susan McNaney and Katie Schumacher;

 his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter Margaret McNaney Manning

and his sons James Patrick McNaney and Joseph Brendan McNaney.
Visiting will be Sunday 4-8pm at

Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle.

A Mass is scheduled for Monday 10:30am Holy Family Church.

Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.

She was born on January 23, 1930 in Jersey City, NJ

to James & Catherine (Carmody) Maloney.

She married the love of her life John Driscoll on May 18, 1951 in

the Church of the Good Sheppard in New York City.

Joan worked for the New York Telephone Company for years 30 years.

Joan is predeceased by her daughter Donna De Feo and her four

brothers & sister Connie, Dermot, Maurice and Jimmy.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years John of Pomona, NY,

her beloved Children

Just received this information on the passing of our dear friend

Tommy Barrett, Class of 1959. He lived at 998 Amsterdam Ave

 Tom went to the lord on 3/2/17.

 He was born in New York city to  Bridie Barrett (nee Tunney) and Tom Barrett 

both from County Mayo, Ireland

 He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Mary.

He is survived by his cousins  Una O'Neil, and Peggy Barrett Wolf.

 He grew up in Ascension Parish in New York City.

 After graduating LaSalle Academy, Tommy left college to join the navy.

He served four years in Vietnam.

 Later Tom worked in sales. He was a valued member of  his community,

and will be sorely missed.

 He is interred in Calverton National Cemetary,  Calverton, New York.

Ann Marie “Nancy” Barrett nee Simpson ’45  86, of Cary, NC,

died very peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2017,

at Duke Hock Hospice Pavilion in Durham, NC.

She was surrounded by the love of her husband, children and friends

 for the week prior to her death at Duke Hospice.

 Nancy was born July 24, 1931 in New York, New York,

the daughter of Emily Dolan Simpson and Joseph Simpson.

She joins her mother, father and three eldest children (Kit, John and Tony) in heaven.

 She married her childhood sweetheart and they brought 9 amazing children into this world.

She was a full-time mom most of her life and went to work when Dad retired.

She worked at Bergen Pines Hospital where she quickly rose to a manager-level position.

She surely had superb experience with supervision.

 She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John “Jake” Barrett of Cary, NC,

her children/spouses Mary (Paul) Kloeblen, Emily Barrett,

Annie Barrett, Liz (John) Noto, Rob Barrett, Kevin (Jen) Barrett, George Gulyas,

and her grandchildren/great grandchildren, Dana (John) Helton,

Jen Barrett, John Michael Daahling, Kevin (Anna) Kloeblen, Millie Kloeblen,

Tim Kloeblen, Barrett Gulyas, Matt Kloeblen,

 Connor Barrett, Luke Barrett, Willie Noto, Trevor Barrett,

 Erin Barrett, and Scott Noto.

 She is also survived by her siblings Kay Moorehead, Geraldine Ciliberti,

Emily Avery, Joan “Lolly” O’Donnell and Joe (JoJo) Simpson.

She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends.

She loved everyone, as everyone loved her!

 She was married in NYC where 7 of her 9 children were born, then moved to New Jersey.

She and Dad retired to Bethany Beach, DE and then moved to Cary, NC,

close to where John and Mary already lived. In Cary they remained.

 She will be remembered by being the Best Hostess of many,

many family and other parties in the backyard of 224 Demarest Ave in New Milford.

She woke every day with a smile on her face and never had a complaint.

 She loved learning anything new. She enjoyed reading and knitting.

 She loved the sun and the ocean.

Her mornings over the last years of her life were enjoyed

 sitting at the kitchen table and watching the birds.

John taught her all the different species. She also loved the flowers from John’s garden.

She felt very lucky to have a lot of family surrounding her in her last years.

John and Mary lived close. Annie and Emily moved to Cary, NC from CA

 and Kevin moved his family of 5 to Cary as well.

The rest visited as much as possible.

Family was the most important thing to her and she wished peace for all.

John E. O'Connor, 52  78 from Little Silver, NJ

passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 surrounded by his family.

He was born in New York City to the late Edward and Mary O'Connor. John was a graduate of

 Baruch College with a degree in Economics and Finance.

He was hired to be the Pension Director for IBEW Local 3 by Harry Van Ardsdale.

After working as the Pension Director, John received a scholarship to

Cornell University where he earned his Master's Degree.

In 1972, He left the electrical industry and joined

 The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company as a Financial Advisor.

 John proudly served his clients for 40 years with the utmost of dedication and retired in 2012.

John was a communicant of St. James Church.

He loved nothing than spending time with family and friends

always with a smile that lit up any room.

Martin J. Flanagan ‘44, AGE: 86 • Matawan Township NJ, passed away peacefully April 25, 2017

 at Riverview. Surrounded by his loving family.

Marty was born on May 28, 1930 in Manhattan, NYC to Ellen (Hanlon) and Martin Flanagan.

Marty attended Ascension Grammar School and Cardinal Hayes High School NYC.

Marty served in the US Army from 1951-1954. He served as a staff sergeant in the

Korean War and he was a long time employee of the ILA Local 1.

Marty married his loving wife Theresa (Luckie) on May 17, 1958.

They settled in Matawan to raise their six children.

Marty was loving and loyal to his wife, family, and took the most joy in life

from his children and grandchildren.

Surviving him is his wife of 58 years Theresa, and their six children

 Martin, Kevin and wife Jamie, Eugene and wife Kim,

Therese, Edward and wife Jill, and Lizbeth;

and his 11 grandchildren Christopher and wife Kelly, Jack, Shane, Matthew,

Mariah, Ryan, Aidan, Kieran, Ian, Michael, and Owen

and great grand daughter Evelyn along with many nieces and nephews.

On March 16, 2017 our dear Friend and Classmate Patricia (Pat) Sullivan McCrossan

 passed away at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital.
Services are private at the request of her Family.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday April 1, 2017 at

St. Stephen the First Martyr Church in Warwick, New York.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to
